The Holocaust Memorial: A Play About Hiroshima
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (November, 2000)
Author: Walter A. Davis
Average review score:

The Psychoanalysis of History and Culture
The Holocaust Memorial psychoanalyzes the mind of the individual who dropped the bomb and in so doing indicts the culture that produced and continues to sustain him. Davis' drama exposes the core disorder of the American psyche: the wedding of sexuality and death rendered in a succession of violently acute images progressing from the orgiastic and orgasmic explosion of the bomb to the new hell on earth inhabited by the blackened skulls of victims unable to howl upon meeting death. In Tibbets, Davis portrays a man in denial of his dead affect, a man so married to military duty that he can only become aroused by ravaging the world with the bomb. In the Historian, Tibbets' Grand Inquisitor, Davis offers an existential alternative, a man who has been visited by sexual cruelty but refuses to be hollowed out by cutting through psychic defense mechanisms like Tibbet's and America's historical justifications for the bomb and instead preserving the image, of the bomb, of sexual violence, as that which must be neither denied nor repeated. In the drama of their "debate," Davis compels us, the audience, to choose between two paths--the first, the rage for rhetorical order that quiets our fears and covers over our voids by afflicting exponentially unto others what was done unto us; the second, the reversal of such processes of repression-cum-cruelty engaged by bearing witness to and working through the traumatic events in history and in our sexual lives.

A Breathtaking Mix of Drama and History
Davis' play kept me up well into the night. It is an incredibly learned work--one that paints credible and haunting and damning portraits of the actors involved in the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima (including President Harry Truman himself). These portraits expose many of the myths, abstractions, and self-serving explanations that have been used to justify America's development of the Bomb and its use, and force us to ask decisive ethical questions about both. The answers to which Davis' play leads us are unsettling, since we may, indeed, now have to memorialize a Holocaust of our own doing. Just as haunting are the voices and images that emerge in the play's depiction of the effects of the bomb as it was experienced by those on the ground. This play forces us to think in human terms about the victims and survivors of Hiroshima, and in so doing, stands as a first step in our attempt to bear witness to past.

A Revolutionary Play
This is a play that challenges the bounds of the theater and shatters all our usual ways of understanding history. Through a focus on the individual who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Davis captures the collective mentality that precipitated that event. In doing so, he forces readers to come to grips with our own willingness to be complicit with the worst atrocities of history. Furthermore, the play utilizes drama to enhance the audience's sense of involvement. The play assaults the audience and offers it no respite. One finishes reading with a feeling of being utterly changed.

How to Use Html3 (How It Works Series)
Published in Paperback by Ziff Davis Pr (March, 1996)
Authors: Scott Arpajian and Ziff-Davis Press

Beginner's best choice
Resently I got an assignment to build a web page but I had absolutely no experience. Fortunately, I had picked this book up intending some day to read it. Using HTML3 as my only source of reference, I was able to build a multi-paged web site with over 400 links world-wide. If it hadn't been for this book, I'd still be scratching my head and wondering how to start.

Excellent beginner's book
This was the fourth book on HTML I've purchased and the only one that was clear and made sense. The explanations are great and pictures helpful. I followed it and created my web page in a short time

Clear, concise, and easy for a "newbie" to HTML.
As a beginner, learning HTML was a daunting prospect. Scott Arpajian's book, HTML3 was a real FIND for me. Since reading this book (more than once) I have constructed a personal homepage, and successfully completed several college computer courses requiring HTML work. THANKS.

to go out of your body. spencer said," YES" okay let's go so that is why this is a wonderful book.

I'm Out of My Body...Please Leave a Message
This book, and its other series are one of my favourite books. It can always make me start to roll around the floor with laughter.
I used to read these with a friend.
I even tried to get out of my body with my friend like Zack and his friend do in the book! I have always liked Dan Greenburg's book's which are jam-packed with laughter and chock-a-block with action. I was about to cry when I found out that our school library didn't have all the series! This book is highly recommended for chidren from 5-13. I hope that everyone who reads this book and its other series can enjoy them as much as I have. In other words if i could give it more stars i would give it 1,000,000!!

ONE GOOD BOOK
I like this book because it is cool.It is cool because Zack and Spencer can go out of thier bodies and can stay up all night, but they don't.

If They Come in the Morning
Published in Paperback by Aperture (January, 2001)
Author: Angela Davis

Political Prisoners
This book primarily deals with thepersecution of Angela Davis. In myopinion a racist oppressive societywas looking for a scapegoat to furthertheir own conservative law and ordermentality. I am refering to MessersNixon and Reagen. The crime she actually committed was the fact thatshe held fast to her principles.Sherefused to renounce her membership inthe Communist party as a result itcost her her job,and almost cost herher life as well. Thank goodness forthe groundswell of support from thepeople. She was freed from the palehands of racist persecution. In this book you will read many moreaccounts of people mostly blacks whobecame victims of a racist oppressivecriminal society. Angela Davis stands as a beacon forthe downtrodden everywhere. She isin my opinion the most influentialblack activist of this century.

Turning the Ship Around
This smallish paperback book is just possibly the most influential piece of literature written in the 20th century. The topic is revolution, the issues, racism and sexual discrimination, the incident, the imprisonment of Angela Davis (and many others). There are contributions from some of the most famous revolutionaries of the 20th century. They did not achieve their goals as stated. However, what is revolution? The ship of state confronted their movement and changed direction, no doubt about that. Two overtly racist systems came down, here and in South Africa. On the cover of the book, you may see a picture of the young Angela, smiling, with the large afro hairdo we have come to know. May you be forever young.

VOICES OF THE RESISTANCE'
I read this book during my high school years. I really enjoyed the different authors. It was a great book.

Intimate Deception: Escaping the Trap of Sexual Impurity
Published in Paperback by Multnomah Publishers Inc. (March, 1989)
Authors: P. Roger Hillerstrom and Deena Davis
Average review score:

Great book for single, non-married, young adults!
This book was fabulous. It has really helped me to better understand issues in my own relationships and to see why they are issues and where they are coming from. It also gives very practical and reasonable advice for couples dealing with sexual sin. Reading this book made me finally realize the full impact of my actions and helped me to understand why I needed to change. It restored hope in my current relationship and in my capacity to handle relationships in general. I borrowed my copy from a friend and want my own-I wish it was still in print!

Finally! Makes sense to teens & adults - EASY reading!
I was given this book shortly after it was first published. I have frequently used this book as a tool to help people through difficult times. I recently needed another copy for a friend and found it is only available through the author. It has just recently reprinted!

We found it a must read for our teens. It is VERY easy reading and shows places in your life where there may be an addiction(s) developing. It gives extemely practical suggestions for escaping from, changing and/or avoiding the traps of those addiction(s. They may or may not be sexual in nature, but the illustrations and simple "do it yourself" review at the end of each chapter helps you to see where you may be vulnerable.

Greatest book to show why dating is harmful to Christians!!!
This book went into detail on the effects of physical contact during dating. It has a great charts to help you see emphasis on certain points he is trying to get across. One of the best I have seen on exposing the deception of physical intimacy between girlfriend and boyfriend.

Introduction to Time Series and Forecasting
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (08 March, 2002)
Authors: Peter J. Brockwell, Richard A. Davis, and P. J. Rockwell
Average review score:

excellent introduction for students and practitioners
In contrast to their graduate text "Time Series: Theory and Methods" this book is more elementary and introductory and is pitched at the advanced undergraduate level requiring only calculus, elementary statistics and matrix algebra. It gives very good coverage to a wide variety of time series models and includes some nonstationary models. In this second edition the chapter on nonstationary models includes the latest coverage of ARCH and GARCH models presented in a way that I found very accessible.

Computations are done with ITSM and in this edition the ITSM 2000 version 7.0 edition is included on a CD so that students can reproduce the authors' calculations and run analyses of their own.

Another nice feature of the text that distinguishes it from other texts at this level is the introduction of multivariate time series, coverage of state space models, chaos and cointegration. Ideas are illustrated with examples. Important theory is discussed but is kept brief and theorems and proofs are not given to the extent of their other more theoretical text.

Excellent introduction on time series analysis
Very good introductory book to ARMA models. Full of real-life examples that provide some intuitive insight about the issues that may arise when modelling time series and forecasting. Requires some initial knowledge in statistics and algebra but if you're involved in time series modelling, it should be your first book.

Jefferson Davis
Published in Audio Cassette by Blackstone Audiobooks (November, 1994)
Authors: William C. Davis and Jeff Riggenbach
Average review score:

excellent, gripping, comprehensive
Jefferson Davis remains a dark, remote Civil War figure, hardly as romantic as Lincoln or as inspiring as Lee.

What William C. Davis has done is to make both the man and the forces that gave him fire and light more immediate and tangible.

Weaving through the myriad controversies and struggles of the pre-Civil War, Civil War and post war years, the author somehow manages to explain endless geographical, political and societal issues without ever losing sight of Davis' central role in them.

A dense but vastly entertaining book that even readers who are not interested in the Civil War would find fascinating.

Fascinating version of Jeff Davis and the Confederacy.
Really enjoyed listening to this book, especially the themes in which Jeff Davis' strengths and flaws were carry on throughout his entire adult life. The last few tapes are outstanding on how the confederacy got reduced to a well guarded 3 mile wagon train.

superb work by a master historical author.
William C. Davis has written THE biography of Jefferson Davis. The book not only reads as easily as a novel, it also has been meticulously researched. Keep your eye on this Davis. He is fast becoming one of America's best popular historian.

Jefferson Davis: The Man and His Hour
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (December, 1991)
Author: William C. Davis
Average review score:

The Ultimate Biography
Before I was introduced to this book I knew nothing about the man in question outside of the fact that he was the first confederate President.

After spending a good month reading this biography of Jefferson Davis I feel like I know the man. William C. Davis does an excellent job portraying the life of Jefferson Davis. Here is a man who had his share of suffering, both physically, mentally, as well as numerous personal loses, but always seemed to bounce back and go on. The book moves along quite smooth, and William C. Davis has the gift of actually making you feel like your there when the many drama'a of Jefferson Davis unfold.

For anyone interested in learning about Jefferson Davis, this is the "meat" of books written about Jefferson Davis. When you finish reading this fine biography you will actually feel like you "know" Jefferson Davis and watched his life unfold right before you. I highly recommend this book to all beginners.

An inspiring account which encourages further research
The author has mastered the challenging task of introducing the reader to the person of President Davis without capturing him in a net of preconceived ideas. In this well told account he presents the positive as well as the negative aspects of Jefferson Davis' character and actions concisely and in a straightforward manner, even bluntly at times. In most instances he does not comment more than absolutely necessary thus leaving a lot of room for the reader to develop his / her own opinion or just to encourage further research on certain points. However, the author's strictly chronological and factual approach is balanced here and there with suitable relaxing anectotes from the President's life such as the story of soldier Jeems, with vivid descriptions of the President's happy and sad moments as well a couple of awe-inspiring contemporary descriptions of his person (the latter being quotes from contemporary sources). The author has endeavoured throughout his work to present Jefferson Davis objectively, not praising nor criticising him more than seems appropriate to facilitate understanding. The book should be compared to a photograph of the President rather than a painting the details of which have been processed by the painter's mind. Speaking from personal experience I can only say that this book has become a lamp to me which lights up the path to further research into the life and times of a very special man indeed.

First rate biography of an important American figure
Wlliam Davis has written a well researched and skillful biography of a major player in American history. He was not only the first and last President of the ill-fated Confederate States of America but, as well detailed in the book, he was the south's leading defender in Congress in the mid-1800s' of "states-rights" and the rightfulness of slavery (He was a major slave "owner" himself). His was not a minor role in the events that that resulted in secession nor in the terrible bloodbath that followed. An excellent book.
